PANAMA
March, 2007

Our first venture on a birding trip and since Panama has some of the best birding we decided to stay at a unique hotel - The Canopy Towers , which
is just outside of Panama City in Soberiana Park. This used to be a USA Radar installation and has been converted to a small hotel with guides, great meals and spectacular views over the jungle canopy to the Panama Canal.

The weather was very good , the guides were excellent. We made two birding tours a day. One in the morning (starting at 7 or 7:30) returning for lunch and siesta and off on another tour about 3 pm until 5:30.

Our next 3 days were spent at a sister site in the mountains 3 hours from Panama City near the town of El Valle. This is called Canopy Lodge and is only about 1 year old. The website for these great sites is www.canopytower.com or www.canopylodge.com

In six days we saw 215 species and Irene saw 122 lifers.
